PETA Tells Pedro -- Go Cluck Yourself!

Pedro Martinez was caught on camera tossing roosters into a cockfight -- and now, PETA is throwing a high, hard one back at him for the deed.

In a letter obtained by TMZ, PETA slams Pedro for setting "a terrible example" for fans, especially the kids, and points out that Major League Baseball discourages its players from gambling of any kind.

What's more, say the animal-rights folks, roosters used in cockfights have their spurs shaved off and replaced by razors, and they're pumped with steroids to make them more aggressive -- sounds a lot like baseball!

The future Hall of Famer was pictured bringing roosters into the ring as an honorary saltador, as the New York Post reported, with Hall of Fame pitcher Juan Marichal. Cockfighting is legal in Martinez' native Dominican Republic. The Mets had no comment this afternoon.

108. First of all he did nothing illegal where he was at. And I am sure people do a lot worse things than this we don't know about. And how about all this drinking alcohol? That sets a really bad example for kids. And when they all drink and drive they are taking not only their lives , but the lives of innocent children and adults in their hands. Where is the same out rage over this?????? PETA people are nut cases period. They care more about animals than people. They have no problem with people abusing or torturing each other only animals. Why not put more effort into stoping all the sex slave oeprations that go on in this country alone? Then again with people like Pam Anderson as members that is probably something she would say is not bad. If he was doing something illegal then fine fire him, if not leave him alone. People like this want the same for our country put their values and beliefs on us and make the governemnt enforce them.

110. HE did this in his own country where it's not only legal but it's tradition, and it was an honor for him to be the guy to carry the chicken to the ring. Who is anyone to judge another culture's traditions. As far as Peta goes there a bunch of nuts anyhow. If they had it their way medical research would come to a halt and we would not even be able to own a dog for God sakes. That lady who run's peta (whatever her name is, that english lady with the messed up teeth), she just wrote that letter bc she knew it would make the news, she's nothing but a media whore (self prclaimed by the way), if it was anyone that wasn't famous and it woudn't of made the news she woudn't of given it the time of day.

115. im not going to say that i agree or desagree with this. but you have to take in to consideration that this is somenthing that have to do a lot with culture. im dominican too and i grew up with this. in puerto rico is very popular too. and is not ilegal. we are so concenrt about the well being of animals, and we dont care that people dont have food in haity and in africa.that children dont have schools to go to. please give a break.

116. PETA is a terrorist organization who now practices home invasions as well. How much do tier lobbyists funnel into D.C. to keep them of the list with the militias and other wack job out fits. I hope one of them trespasses on property and gets mauled by a dog. It would be poetic watching a PETA person scream for cops to shoot a dog that's tearing them to shreds.

He's abusing animals AND ripping off working Americans.

How is it that you feel intitled to what he makes out of this country? He pays his taxes here, where it matters. I hate animal abuse, but you know what I hate more? Child abuse!! Why don't we focus on something that truly matters?
