PETA Tells Pedro -- Go Cluck Yourself!

Pedro Martinez was caught on camera tossing roosters into a cockfight -- and now, PETA is throwing a high, hard one back at him for the deed.

In a letter obtained by TMZ, PETA slams Pedro for setting "a terrible example" for fans, especially the kids, and points out that Major League Baseball discourages its players from gambling of any kind.

What's more, say the animal-rights folks, roosters used in cockfights have their spurs shaved off and replaced by razors, and they're pumped with steroids to make them more aggressive -- sounds a lot like baseball!

The future Hall of Famer was pictured bringing roosters into the ring as an honorary saltador, as the New York Post reported, with Hall of Fame pitcher Juan Marichal. Cockfighting is legal in Martinez' native Dominican Republic. The Mets had no comment this afternoon.

20. Does anyone know how to find out when peta will have those nude girls in a cage? Do they post it? I want to go sit
next to them in a lawn chair, with a blanket on my lap, and make lewd and vulgar noises. Seriously, how do you find
out where they will be. I was in W. Pa. once, and either in downtown P-burgh, or Philly, one of them was nude in a cage,
kinda painted like a tiger. I've always regretted not making a scene.

22. Shame on you Martinez! fyi...Just because this is common in one region of the country DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT! And even if the do use the "loser" in a "mighty feast" it is still cruel. This is inhumane, immoral and it's things like this that make me hope that karma really does exist.

27. PETA - Isn't one of their spoke people Pam Anderson who was pregnant and then all of the sudden wasn't. She is for Abortion but against KFC. WTF????? I bet none of the PETA idiots have ever handled a Fighting Rooster if they have they would know that they are not your ordinary chicken. It is their nature to fight and fight anything that moves that is just they way the are. PETA should take up a real cause like world hunger. They could feed alot of people with all the animals they are "saving".

28. What are all these sports athletes thinking about when they ruin their brilliant careers on drugs, sex, gambling, animal abuse and murdering their wives. These stars need to remember they are role models for young kids who basically worship them. I
believe everyone found guilty of doing these horrible things should be kicked out permantely from whatever sport they play.
This is the only way to deal with these overpaid athletes. It should also be true of politicians and movie/TV stars. Bonds, OJ,
